Imam Siraj Wahhaj Diagnosis: Prostate Cancer
ATLANTA, GA – In a statement released on Feb. 28, Imam Siraj Wahhaj announced that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Imam Sirah Wahaj is not going to be able to continue the fast paced, back-to-back schedule he has maintained for many years. He has had to cancel...
... almost all of his speaking engagements for the time being. Despite the seriousness of his condition, the imam is in relatively good spirits.
Imam Sirah has been resting at his home in Atlanta after being hospitalized in Brooklyn, N.Y., earlier this month. He had been at the masjid he founded in Brooklyn, N.Y. Masjid At-Taqwa, where he had complained about a pain in his chest. Originally he had been diagnosed with exhaustion and hypertension. Later, it was discovered to be prostate cancer.
Imam Siraj Wahhaj is also the head of the Muslim Alliance in North America. For more than 30 years, the well-known imam has traveled extensively at the invitation of other Muslim leaders and organizers in the United States and abroad, sharing his knowledge of Islam. He often booked back-to-back speaking engagements on a weekly basis.
A spokesman for MANA, Imam Qasim Khan, told IFN that Wahhaj must take a sabbatical from some of his responsibilities in order to balance his life and improve his overall health. Khan said Wahhaj has canceled most of his speaking engagements until further notice. Khan said MANA is collecting donations to offset the considerable costs associated with Wahhaj’s treatment and care and to aid in the support of his family.
