Recently, Sheikh Charkawi was involved in an incident where he was allegedly targeted by a motorist, Kelly Farrugia, who reportedly attempted to run him down near Granville Boys High School, where he serves as a student support officer.
Farrugia has been charged with intimidation and common assault over this incident, as well as with publicly threatening violence on religious grounds, offensive behavior, using offensive language, and intimidation related to a separate incident at a Kmart in Bankstown.
She has been released on strict conditional bail and is scheduled to return to court in January.
Sheikh Charkawi has been an outspoken advocate for the Palestinian cause and is leading "The Muslim Vote" campaign, encouraging Muslim Australians to support pro-Palestine candidates in upcoming elections.
