Anwar Al Awlaki is Dead
Washington, D.C. -- September 30, 2011 (Jummah) Speaking Friday morning at a ceremony marking a change in the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, President Obama called the death of American-born cleric Anwar al-Awlaki a "major blow to al-Qaida's most active operational affiliate."
Al-Awlaki, a prominent figure in "said to have direct involvement in plots against the U.S., and Samir Khan, who edited a Jihadi Internet magazine, were killed early Friday in an attack on their convoy in Yemen by U.S. armed drones and fighter jets according to counterterrorism officials.
