3:30 PM EST - Regan Airport Shut Down - Terminal A due to smell of gas, according to Courtney Mickalonis, airport spokesperson. Investigators did not find evidence of major damage due to quake.
Culpepper and Orange counties reported some actual structual damage, according to Laura Southard - state emergency operations center. No injuries reported.
3:28 - Washington, D.C.-- White House & adjacent buildings were cleared out in precautionary measures after the quake. U.S. Secret Service assigned to protect the president said, aftwards it was "all clear".
FBI & Justice Department also reopened their buildings after the all-clear was announced.
3:25 - All along the eastcoast of US, residents are preparing for the well known after affects called "after shocks". Sometimes the after shocks can be on the same level as the original quakes or even larger.
3:22 PM EST = North Anna Nuclear Power Plant - 20 miles from epicenter was shut down but in safe condition. No release of nuclear power was reported so far.
3:04 PM EST -- National Parks Administration reported - all national monuments & parks are closed - but in stable condition after the earthquake, U.S. Park Police confirmed.
Minor injuries, some minor damage to structures reported in Washington, D.C. according to Sgt. David Schlosser, U.S. Park Police spokesperson.
3:00 PM EST --Amtrak is reporting service disruptions between Washington and Baltimore because of the earthquake, the company reported on Twitter.
U.S. Geological Survey seismologist Lucy Jones told CNN. "People should be expecting (them), especially over the next hour or two," she said.
Philadelphia, PA; NYC & Martha's Vineyard, MAassachusetts - President Obama is vacationing. It's unknown if the president felt the quake.
Pentagon Evacuated, CNN's Barbara Starr reports. "When the building began shaking rather violently, hundreds of people began streaming out," she said, because many people thought that the building was under attack. Starr was standing in the Pentagon's press office when the roof started to shake.
Cell phone service has been disrupted in New York City minutes of the quake.
Pentagon Flooded - 2:47 PM EST "considerable amount" of water from a water pipe has flooded two corridors of the Pentagon, according to an announcement in the building. People who work in those areas are being asked to stay in their offices while workers try to repair the damage.
National Cathedral, Washington, D.C. - DAMAGE CONFIRMED -- A portion of the central tower at the highest point in Washington, was reproted damaged. According to Richard Weinberg, a local spokesperson, "It looks like 3 pinnacles broken off the central tower.
Nuclear Power Plant - Dominion Generation, which operates the North Anna nuclear power station in central Virginia a few miles from the epicenter of the earthquake, is trying to reach operational staff at the plant, according to a company spokesman. Landlines to the plant appear to be down.
New York Stock Exchange also felt the quake and shouted to each other, "Keep trading!" CNN's business correspondent Alison Kosik reported from the floor at 2:20 p.m. E.T.
All EAST Coast - Twitter traffic suggests the quake was felt up and down the entire east coast of the United States
Philadelphia, HunterPence3 tweeted, "Wow Earthquake just shook the entire locker room!"
Cleveland, Ohio, "tribeinsider" wrote "I'm no expert but i think we just had an earthquake here."
Toronto, Canada, tweets said that the shaking could be felt for minutes.
Fredericksburg, Virginia, Pete Kretch likened the sensation to being on a jolting amusement ride. "I was receiving a supply truck," said Krech, store manager at Mattress Warehouse of Fredericksburg, south of Washington. "I felt a vibration under my feet."
North Carolina, Brendan Wein, a sales representative at Hoffman Nursery in Roxboro, said he thought there was a helicopter flying above his work building. "I was literally shaking in my chair," he said.
Long Island, NY - A New Yorker was in his backyard when the earthquake hit. "Suddenly I felt this light swaying of the Earth. I'd never felt that before, so I thought maybe I was experiencing vertigo for a moment, and it lasted maybe 30 seconds ... We're feeling this really far away!" he said.
