Israel Calls UN Flotilla Repot - 'Biased'
Pushing UN - to Stall Gaza Flotilla Debate
UN Report Claims Israeli Military Broke International Law in Raid on Aid Ship Killing 9 Passengers Bound for Gaza.
Israel wants UN to hold back report on Gaza Flotilla Attack until they can come up with results from their own investigation into the raid that left many citizens from European and America injured, wounded and dead. The UN Human Rights Commission released a report on Wednesday which said that Israeli forces violated international law when they raided a Gaza-bound aid flotilla, killing nine and wounding many others, four months ago.
Immediately after the military action against the civilian boats, Israel came up with their own 'inquiry' on the raid, headed up by Jacob Turkel, a former Supreme Court Justice.
Foreign Ministry of Israel shot back at the report late Wednesday, even though they admit not studying it, saying the UN Human Rights Commission has an extreme biased and politicaized approach to the investigation. They say they will 'study' the report (later).
The Turkel Commission hoped to ease or put down the international fury at Israel's attack on civilian boats in international waters. The commission additionally is coming up with material for a separate investigation at the UN.
When interviewed on Army Radio a few days ago, former Judge Turkel was questioned concerning current status and when it would be finished.
His reply was, "Certainly we have now gathered most of testimony" and "If more witnesses testify, they will be less important and not a large number left."
Aharon Yaar, envoy to UN in Geneva, said today the results of the UN Human Rights Commission report has been already determined.
"Yes, certainly. We have by now gathered most of the testimony," Turkel said. "If there will be more witnesses testifying, they will be witnesses of lesser importance, and not a large number of them remain."
Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attacked the UN report two days ago claiming it was "biased, distorted.." and those conducting the investigation are "obessed with targeting Israel".
