It's OFFICIAL (says ISNA)
Pakistan (no) Indonesia (yes) Hong Kong (no) --Islamic..official statements saying they have not sighted the moon there.
According to the latest in Pakistan, (back on Tuesday) is the 28th day of Shaban and because they have not sighted the new moon, they are waiting until Thursday or possibly even Friday to begin fasting.Pakistan (no) Indonesia (yes) Hong Kong (no) --Islamic..official statements saying they have not sighted the moon there.
Since there was no sighting of the hilal in Hong Kong, they are now offically, starting their fasting on Thursday. This is according to the offical report of the Islamic Council there.
However, the Islamic Fiqh Council here in America is going by the calculations and have already issued their fatwah stating Ramadan for Muslims in the U.S. will begin with the recitation of Quran in Taraweh on Tuesday night after Esha salat (night prayers) and fasting will begin at Fajr (before daylight) on Wednesday.
Some Muslims are confused on how to deal with such differences of opinion.
Scholars differ on whether or not it is permissable to simply use calcutlations or if it is necessary to actually "see" the hilal (new crescent of the moon) at the time of sunset.
One general rule of thumb for all Muslims, is to keep in mind, Allah wants for us ease and love for each other. Also keep in mind, scholars are only differing on how to know when the beginning of the month is and if one says Tuesday night and another says Wednesday night, the best thing for the non-scholars to do is say, Al Hamdulillah.
If we simply follow the imam of our own community, it will be fine for all of us.
This is due to the saying of the prophet, peace be upon him, "When a scholar makes ijtihad (striving for the correct answer) and comes up with the right answer, then he recieves a double reward with his Lord. And if he is wrong he still receives one full reward."
This is due to his hard work and research and trying his best, with the correct intention for Allah and His Deen.
So, a very nice approach is to give the respect to the teachers and do your best to hold the community together.
Starting or ending the month of Ramadan on a different day - is not an act of kufr, as long as you are following a true scholar who has made a judgment based on Quran and sunnah.
But dividing up the Muslims - is an act of kufr (disbelief).
May Allah save us all and grant us a successful and Merciful Ramadan from Him, ameen.
