........Nope - Not Anymore.......
Guiness World Records certifies another record breaker goes to the developers of U.A.E. (United Arab Emirates).
The new - "World's Furthest Leaning Man-made Tower" label belongs to Capital Gate in Abu Dhabi.
And they certify it is leaning almost 5 times farther than the "Leaning Tower of Pisa" (in Italy).
Tower has 35 floors and the leaning slope is at 18 degrees, compare that to only 4 degrees with the bell tower.
The main difference of course, is Capital Gate building was purposely built to be on the slant, whereas, the tower in Pisa - just happened (this was long before the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and computers - LOL)
There are floor plates stacked up on edge vertically all the way up to the 12th floor, then they are staggered over each other from 300 mm to 1,400 mm - making the tower "lean" out, according to the buildings owners.
Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, chairman of Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company, the buildings owner, said "It is a signature building that speaks to the foresight of the Emirate".
The leaning structure is also featured in a National Geographic program entitled "Megastructures" and should be ready for tenants as soon as the end of the year, inshallah.
Back in January we ran the story of another world's record in Dhubai, U.A.E. and then we visited it the next month for the Peace Conference there. It is the tallest skyscraper in the world, at a cost of 1.5 billion dollars - the 160 story Burj Khalifa - and it is over 2,625 feet (800 meters) tall.
OK - in the shot (below) you can't really see it that good in the background (because it is on the other side of the building where we are) but hey, it is a picture of me and the other "Yusuf" taken in Dhubai, U.A.E. just hours before we flew off to Oman (I really miss those guys)
