Last night, while most Muslims were breaking their fasts, going to the mosque to hear the Quran recited, and relaxing after a long day of fasting, certain Muslim leaders were engaged in a very serious project - called "Water For Life PROJECT"
Sheik Yusuf Estes, Imam Mutahhir Sabree along with Imam Ali from Greewhich Masjid once again, endured hardships for the sake of helping those for whom all others had given up hope.
The imams spent the long, grueling night (Saturday until Sunday morning), in front of Islam Channel's cameras, for a LIVE TV appeal to raise awareness and raise funds for the hungry and starving people of North eastern Africa's Mandera District.
But this was not the first time these imams put aside their own personal lives to help save lives of others.
It all started last year, when Sheik Yusuf had made a public commitment to Allah, himself and the viewing audience on UK's Islam Channel - to actually go out into the field, on the ground in one of the most dangerous places in all of Africa - the Mandera District, right on the Somali border.
Despite kidnappings and murders in one of the world's most desolate places, all three of these galant and respected imams, accepted the challange and the invitation of Islamic Relief, to go and see first hand the conditions of the people, their sufferings and what has been done by their organization to this point.
Amazingly enough the entire project continues to somehow go beyond expectations and even set records for volunteer participation, sponsorship and commitment.
Staff members commented on the astonshing effect and results being achieved in the face of so many challenges on all levels.
"So many live appeals of Muslim charities are being made on all [Islamic] channels this month [Ramadan], we didn't know what to expect. Yet it was beautiful the way everything came together and the way people responded to the imams efforts on it [the live appeal]" - unidentified volunteer
"The viewing audience responded all night long, calling in, pledging their support and offering their prayers along with Sheik Yusuf, Imam Sabree and Imam Ali... It was so beautiful. I found myself crying several times." - brother in UK
"What's important , at the end of the day, is not about 'How much money did they raise?' - It is all about what they do with the resources after the support comes in. And for me, Islamic Relief is the top, number one Muslim charity on the planet - today!" - Sheik Yusuf Estes - Washington, D.C.
"My full support is with this project and with Islamic Relief. I thank Allah for Sheik Yusuf inviting me to be a part of this grand opportunity." - Imam Mutahhir Sabree - S.C. US
At present, Islamic Relief is the only active charity on the ground, daring to go into these remote, waterless areas, braving the possiblity at any moment, hijackers may strike their convoy.
Islamic Relief continues to be the sole support for the women, children and livestock struggling to survive in tiny, remote villeages in Mandera District, Kenya.
