Not a sports record! Not a music record!
A Record We ALL NEED - NOW!
For 25 hours and five minutes Senator Cory Booker, Democrat from New Jersey, railed against Trump’s policies. He stood — same place, no sitting, no breaks!
He broke the record for the longest continuous speech on the floor of the U.S. Senate — at 56 years old that’s really something.
I recall being 56 — (15 years back), and I gave speeches for hours (maybe 2) but not day or night, and not 25 hours —
OK, back to the story . . .

🕊️ What This Means:
This is more than just a time record.
📜 Strom Thurmond used the Senate floor to block civil rights for Black Americans.
On March 31 to April 1, 2025, Senator Cory Booker, an African-American Democrat from New Jersey, broke the record for the longest Senate speech in U.S. history — a record that had stood since 1957.
⏱️ The Record Broken:
-
Old Record: Senator Strom Thurmond, a segregationist (hates brown folks) from South Carolina, spoke for 24 hours and 18 minutes in 1957.
-
Purpose: He was speaking out against the Civil Rights Act of 1957 — meant to protect African-Americans’ right to vote.
🕊️ Cory Booker used it to defend human rights and to stand against modern-day oppression (like apartheid?).
So a Black senator — standing for justice — just broke the record once held by a man who stood against justice for people like him.
🗣️ New Record (2025):
-
New Holder: Senator Cory Booker (Black, Democrat, former mayor of Newark)
-
Spoke for: Over 25 hours
-
Purpose: Protesting policies under Donald Trump, advocating for justice, equality, and moral leadership — drawing inspiration from figures like John Lewis and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Poetic? Powerful? Providential?
-
Maybe all three . . ?
