Just southwest of Searles Valley, San Bernardino County in the remote desert area north of Barstow, 25 NE of Ridgecrest. Many posts online social media (like Facebook) reported shaking south of National Weather Service's San Diego office and all the way to Desert Hot Springs.
"Did anyone else feel it?" and "I felt an earthquake" - "I felt it.." were reports from North Las Vegas, Woodland Hills, Palmdale, La Puente, Santa Maria, Santa Ana and Covina.
An earlier quake was reported to be a 4.2 M in the same proximity before the big one (6.6M).
The U.S. Geological Survey website got so overloaded after quakes, it could not be readily accessed.
