Stealth Fighter & Pilot 'Invisible'?
Lost: F-22 Stealth Raptor
U.S. Air Force has lost a fighter jet and pilot somewhere around the Alaskan Air base Elmendorf. A 'Stealth' fighter plane, F-22 Raptor type was out on a regular routine training mission yesterday, when all of a sudden ground control lost contact.
Nothing was visible on the screen and there was no indication of what may have happened to the 143 million dollar aircraft or its pilot.
Last night about 7:40 PM (Alaska time), the air traffic controller lost all contact with the pilot of one of the world's most noted 'stealth' class fighter planes. The safety of the pilot and whereabouts of the plane immediately caused concern amongst high military officials.
A search and rescue mission was quickly organized and is now is underway.
The F-22 is the military's newest and most technologically advanced fighter. It's a one-man, stealth supercruiser designed for air-to-air and air-to-ground missions. The Air Force has 137 of these stealth fighters in its fleet.
One of the problems associated with finding the aircraft is - it is designed not to be discovered by radar.
Special Note: If you should happen to 'hear' a stealth fighter fly over, please call the Pentagon (collect).
